Waterware is a New Zealand owned business delivering innovative plumbing, heating and cooling, and bathroomware solutions to the local market. Darren Yearsley, Waterware’s technical director, will be speaking at the ArchiPro Commercial Expo on panel one. This panel will focus on embracing a circular economy and finding innovative ways to reduce the negative impacts on the environment to ensure a greener future for New Zealanders. Alongside the other expert panellists, Darren will be discussing his perspective on sustainable plumbing solutions.
In the lead up to the ArchiPro Commercial Expo, we asked Darren a few questions to learn more about his work and how sustainability fits into the equation.
Hi Darren, please tell us a little bit about yourself and what your work involves.
I am the technical director for Waterware, specialising in engineering hot water heating and cooling systems. My role is to lead the technical team responsible for system design, commissioning and troubleshooting support.
Can you summarise what you’ll be speaking about at the ArchiPro Commercial Expo in a few sentences?
I will be describing the Net Zero hot water system, a solution for centralised hot water production. The system combines solar PV, high temperature heat pumps and hot water cylinders to provide hot water to multi-unit accommodation in an energy and carbon neutral way.
How does the theme of environmental sustainability apply to the work that you do?
Our aim is to do more with less, creating systems which both increase comfort and reduce operating costs are the pathway to transitioning the market to sustainability.
What are some key things you think the design and construction industry needs to embrace in order to build a better future for New Zealand?
New technology and the combination of existing technologies in new ways is the key to moving the market forward. For sustainability to be widely adopted, the financials of the new systems have to make sense. Expecting the market to adopt these new systems purely for environmental reasons will not be successful.
What aspect of the ArchiPro Commercial Expo are you looking forward to most?
